Capacitance Sensors

We design capacitor  sensors. Each sensor consists of sensing element connected to and electronic box via an umbilical cable. The sensing element can be any shape of electrical conductive material.  Any object of high dialectic value (e.g. human body part) brought into proximity to the sensor element changes the capacitance of the sensor element. This change in capacitance is detected by the electronics.  The electronics can be set to trigger  when a certain capacitance level is reached. Abacus Optical mechanics is seeking partners to further develop these sensor and commercialize the sensor.

These sensors can be used in numerous applications including:
automotive window "anti squeeze sensor"
Power closing train doors
MAT sensor (floor sensors)
edge sensor
Intrusion detection system

Automotive window capacitance
"anti squeeze sensor"

The capacitance "anti-squeeze sensor" for car door windows consists of an electronics box and a sensor element. The sensor element is imbedded in the window seal and is sensitive to objects of high dialectic value (e.g. human body part).  An object of high dielectric value can be sensed at a distance of 0 to 10 cm from the sensor (user selectable). When the objected is detected (for example a  body part e.g. finger) trapped in the path of a closing window  of a car door the electrical window motor is programmed to reverse without touching or compressing the potentially trapped body part.

Train door capacitive sensor

The capacitance "anti-squeeze sensor" for train door consists of the electronics (ASIC -applications specific integrated circuit) and sensor elements. The sensors elements are imbedded in the train door seal and are sensitive to objects of high dialectic value (e.g. human body part) sensing at a distance of 0 to 10 cm from the sensor probe (user selectable). When the objected is detected (for example a body part e.g. finger) the train door can be made to revere and thus prevent trapping of a body part in the power closing trains door.   The sensor unique design and placement of the sensor elements enable it to distinguish between the opposing closing train door and a body part (e.g. finger). In addition the patented design enables the sensor to detect object that have low dialectic properties.

Capacitance mat sensor
(floor sensor)

Abacus Optical Mechanics capacitance  mat sensor consists of a flexible rubber /vinyl mat in which the sensor element is embedded. Any object of high dialectic value (e.g. human body part) brought into proximity to the sensor element is detected by the sensor. When a certain threshold (user selectable) of mass is  reached  the electronics box can trip a relay, which can reverse or stop a motor or sound a buzzer or trigger an electrical device.

Edge Sensor

Abacus Optical Mechanics capacitance "edge sensor" consists of a flexible rubber /vinyl extrusion in which the sensor element  is embedded. Any object of high dialectic value (e.g. human body part) brought into proximity to the sensor element is detected by the sensor. When a certain threshold  is reached  (user selectable) the electronics box can trip a relay, which can reverse or stop a motor or sound a buzzer or trigger an electrical device. The sensitive of the device is adjustable .

Intrusion Capacitance Sensor

The sensor we produce could be used for perimeter security monitoring by either being buried in the ground or attached to a fence. Interruption or any object of high dialectic value (e.g. human body part) brought into proximity to the sensor element is detected by the sensor.  This will result in a signal change, which in turn can trigger a security response. The sensitivity of the sensor can be adjusted.
